This is a 1929 Gibson TB4 5 string conversion Banjo with a 2 piece flange. This has been fully inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This is all original other than the conversion parts and a new Prucha tension hoop. The mahogany resonator is original but it may have been oversprayed. We really aren’t sure. The banjo is mahogany with 2 concentric rings and chrome hardware. The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern that goes to the headstock. There is w/b/w binding on each side of the neck and resonator. The armrest is a 2 piece armrest and the tailpiece is a Grover Patent Pending tailpiece.

This has a gorgeous Birds Eye Maple shell which is rare. You can see a lot of birdseye when you take the resonator off. This is absolutely a special banjo.

The tone ring is a Sullivan conversion ring and this has a Clancy Mullins neck. This is a fantastic conversion banjo that really has the pre war tone and plays great!!! This also includes a very nice Superior Hardshell Case.

Condition

This is absolutely in fantastic condition. The finish all looks really good and the hardware also looks fantastic. This is really a clean banjo. The neck is also clean with a clean fretboard. The frets themselves show a hint of wear on the first few frets but it is minor. The rest of the frets are clean. This has spikes at the 7th-9th frets. The banjo has zero functional issues and is absolutely in great shape. The Superior Case is also super clean.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up here at the shop. This has nice string height which is comfortable to play while still producing some great tone. The banjo has a new Huber frosted Head which is set to 90 on a drum dial. The bridge is a Sosebee bridge with an ebony cap. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. The banjo also is properly intonated. This is a really good opportunity to get a fantastic pre war banjo that looks great, sounds great and is professionally set up to play great.
