This is a gorgeous and rare Gibson Kel Kroydon Conversion with a special resonator. The banjo has been inspected and set up at Banjo Warehouse.

Description

The Pre War Gibson style 10’s and 11’s are absolutely gorgeous featuring a pearloid veneer which was quite popular in the 1930’s. This particular banjo is a Kel Kroydon or KK11 and the resonator has gold shading along with wood veneer on the sides. That is a rare resonator. This has an all original pot with a conversion neck made by Robin Smith.

The shell is a 3 ply hard rock maple shell and all of the hardware is nickel and original. This includes a one piece flange and the original Pre War Tone Hoop. The tuners on the neck are new because the neck is also new and they are gold waverly’s. The fretboard and headstock on the neck are both pearloid which is a great feature on this banjo. This banjo is truly gorgeous.

The gold shading on the back of the resonator is absolutely gorgeous. This is truly a special banjo and includes a hardshell case.

Condition

This is a gorgeous banjo that is in great shape. The resonator and shell are in fantastic condition. The neck is basically new so that is also in fantastic shape. The hardware is gorgeous for Pre War hardware, it is still shining. The flange has a slight pull but it’s not bad at all. The flange is nearly perfect. This banjo is not only a beautiful design, it is in beautiful condition. The case is clean as well. One of the latches is broken but that doesn’t effect the use of the case at all. It is strong and sturdy.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. The head is a Remo frosted head and is set to 90. The intonation is set. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action on this feels great. This definitely is a great player with the Pre War Tone.
