Description

This is a 1936 Gibson TB1 conversion Banjo with a Frank Neat neck and a Flathead Tone ring by Sullivan Banjos. This banjo is a phenomenal example of a Pre War conversion with all original parts minus a modern Presto Tailpiece and Waverly Tuners. Of course the neck and tone ring are not original but they also were necessary to convert this to a Mastertone style 5 string Banjo.

This has the original 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a maple neck and resonator. The neck and resonator each have white binding. The neck has a rosewood fretboard and was made by Frank Neat. Up the fretboard is a really attractive Flying Eagle inlay pattern.

The tension hoop, flange, armrest, hooks, nuts and coordinator rod are all original. The tailpiece is a modern presto and the tuners are new Waverly Tuners. This is not all original but it does have a lot of pre war parts including an original rim and resonator.

This also has a hardshell case.

Condition

This banjo is in fantastic shape. The original hardware looks great with an original one piece flange that has almost no pull, if any at all. The original resonator is in incredible shape with clean finish that has a light coat of checking and some very minor surface scratching. The original resonator looks fantastic.

The frets and fretboard are also super clean and this has spikes at frets 7 and 9. The case is clean as well.

Set Up

This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge and strings are both new Huber. This banjo is top notch and has been set up to truly pull out the Pre War Sound that so many people know and love.
