1949 Gibson RB150 5 string Banjo

This is a very worn 1940’s Gibson RB150 with a modern Gibson Hardshell Case. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This is a 1940’s Gibson RB150 that has a lot of wear but also has a lot of original parts and is a fantastic player. This has the original shell, resonator, tension hoop, tone hoop, armrest, tailpiece and neck. The flange is a modern Gibson USA flange and the tuners are modern as well. This banjo has been drug through the mud but all of those original parts do make a difference. This banjo has the vintage sound so many players want and this is priced in such a way that it is not out of reach. This also includes a modern Gibson Hardshell Case.

Condition

This is definitely worn. There was a pretty serious crack on the bottom of the resonator which has been repaired. There are exposed holes from tuners in the headstock which have been filled. Other then that the banjo has a lot of checking in the finish, dings and nicks but nothing too serious. The metal is in really good shape and the frets and fretboard are in good shape as well. The first few frets show some minor wear but this has no functional issues. There was once some spikes in the fretboard which have been removed. We can add spikes if you like. The case is also pretty worn but just like the banjo it is absolutely functional.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. The head is a vintage 5 star frosted head and is set to 90. The bridge is a Sullivan Old Growth Bridge. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10’s. The action is a bit higher then I normally set these up but I know players who set their strings up even higher. This banjo is definitely set up and functional and has the vibe.
