This is a very nice openback banjo made by Kawai in the 1960’s in Japan.  This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

Vintage Japanese Instrument manufacturing is some of the best of our era and this was made during that time in Japan.

The shell is maple with a veneer on the outside which is definitely quality wood.  I’m not sure if that is curly maple or walnut or what but the outside veneer of the shell is definitely nice wood.  The hardware is nickel and this has a nice tension hoop along with 30 lugs.  The neck is maple with a rosewood fretboard that has block position markers.  There is a nice kawai logo on the face of the headstock.  There is also white binding on each side of the neck.

This is a fairly basic design but since we have cleaned this and set it up this is a quality banjo for sure.  Especially for under $500.  This is all original and also includes a gig bag.

Condition

This is definitely in great shape.  The metal all looks great with normal aging.  The wood also looks fantastic and I’m assuming this wasn’t played much.  The fretboard and the frets are both super clean and look basically untouched.  We have also cleaned the tension hoop and cleaned and oiled the fretboard and this has been set up by us.  This banjo is definitely gorgeous and in great shape.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up at the Banjo Warehouse.  The head has been set to 88 on a drum dial all the way around the head.  This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set nicely.  The bridge is a Snuffy Smith bridge which is a really nice touch.  The banjo also has correct intonation.  This is a great vintage Japanese design that has been professionally cleaned and set up to look, play and sound its best.  Check out Banjo Warehouse for all sorts of interesting New, Used and Vintage Banjos for Sale!
