Description
This is definitely a body and a neck off of a 1965 Fender Precision Bass. This weighs 8 pounds and 3 ounces. The serial number on the neck plate is L95484. The neck heel is stamped 5 July 65C. The fretboard is rosewood. Somebody at some point painted the body green and added bartolini pickups. I’m not sure if the bridge is original and I also am not sure if they used white pickguards at that time so the pickguard may also not be original. The strap buttons and the tuning keys, finish on the neck and logo are original as are the knobs and neck plate. The rest of the bass I believe has been modified.
The fact this is so light and has the original neck is huge. There is a lot a player could do with this with changes to the electronics. The truss rod turns and the bass plays great. It also sounds great but I think the Bartolinis were not the best choice for this. This also includes a tolex hardshell case.
Condition
The new paint is in good shape but god what a yucky color. The neck has a good bit of wear to the finish on the back which is a plus. This causes the neck to play faster. The first few frets show some wear but the rest are clean. The headstock looks great with a clean logo. The tuners show patina but still look cool and are in good shape. This has loads of potential and someone is going to turn this into a monster. The case is also clean.
This is a killer project for someone but this does work. Everything works, it plays and can be used now no problem. As a bass player I really feel this should have some different pickups but that is not necessary. Bartolini’s are great, but maybe not in a 1965 P bass. If you have any questions please ask. Thanks!!!
