1966 Gibson PB800 Conversion
This is a maple banjo with Gold hardware that has been fully engraved. This is truly mint, the Gold glows and is perfect. The wood glows and is perfect. The original owner played this for 6 months in 1966 and this has sat in a closet in the mint case since. There is a 5 string conversion neck but the original Near Mint neck is also included. The original neck has the Custom marked on the Truss rod in the pictures. The tailpiece on the banjo is not original but it is Gold and engraved. The original tailpiece is included in the case pocket.
This is a phenomenal banjo and it is insane how clean this is. The 5 string conversion neck does have a finish crack on the back which I have pointed out in the pictures. The neck is in great shape but pales in comparison to how clean the pot of the banjo is. I see a LOT of banjos and usually by this point there is at least some kind of patina. This metal is perfect.
If this was an original RB800 in this condition it would cost $5000. The case is also mint. This is definitely a collector’s item and you can play it as a 5 string or a plectrum.
