This is a gorgeous and all original Japanese made Alvarez from the 1970’s that has case candy and the original case. The banjo has been fully inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta.

Description

This is a gorgeous Japanese made Alvarez 5 string Banjo. This is all original and includes an original full size tone ring.

This has a mahogany resonator with nickel hardware. The neck is also mahogany and has a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has snowflake position markers. This has a 2 piece flange and a 2 piece armrest which are both original. There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator. This has an original full size tone ring which is significant because it makes a big difference for tone. There is also inlay work on the headstock including the Alvarez logo.

This also has the original brown Japanese case along with the original tag, key and lug wrench. In addition this has a vintage banjo strap which is probably worth $100! This is the complete package and this is also clean. The banjo looks fantastic and also is a great sounding banjo!!!! This is a great item for a banjo collector.

Condition

This is definitely clean overall. The resonator and neck wood and finish look great. They have a nice shine. The hardware looks new, it is definitely glowing!!! The frets show almost no wear and there are no spikes. We can add spikes if you want them. The only wear is 2 marks on the headstock that are nicks in the wood. Both have been touched up so they don’t look that bad but there are marks on each side of the headstock which are pictured. The original case and tag are both clean as well.

Set up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. This has the original waverly fyber skin head which is set to 90 on a drum dial. The bridge is a Grover bridge. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. The banjo is set up with comfortable action and this really sounds great!!! This also has correct intonation. These old Japanese instruments are absolutely quality and if you can find a clean one that is set up this could be the last banjo you ever need!!!!
