1976 Music Man Stingray Bass

This is one of the coolest possible Stingray Basses in existence.  This has been inspected and set up by the Stingray Man at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta.

Description

This is a First Year Pre Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray Bass.  This is known as a Radio Knob because the knobs were the same as what is commonly found on the old radios.  These plastic knobs are found on the basses that are regarded as being the best that Music Man has ever made.  This also happens to have the serial number B001976 which is incredibly cool considering that Music Man started in 1976 and this is a first year bass.  Of all the basses that could have been given this serial number it was on a radio knob which is incredible.  This bass also includes a massive amount of case candy which is worth $1000’s by itself and would take an incredible amount of time to accumulate.

This bass is sunburst and the shade of sunburst is very rare and can only be found on the earliest Stingrays.  This is sort of a chocolate sunburst and definitely looks great.  The neck is maple and has original frets and the logo has TM instead of R which is another mark that this is early.  The TM switched to R in the logo in the middle of 1977.  This has all original parts including an original String through body bridge.

The electronics feature a set of Long Pole Pickups which are pickups that have the magnets (poles) extended into the body.  There is a pocket routed into the body that the poles hang down into and this combination is regarded as the best design for tone.  The preamp is the original epoxy preamp and all of the pots and input jack are also original.

The bass weighs 11 pounds 2 ounces.

This bass is incredible and there is absolutely a sound that only comes out of the Radio Knobs which this has.  The bass also plays GREAT.  This is a phenomenal example of an early Stingray in every way and there are less then 200 Radio Knob Stingrays that exist.

Condition

The bass is in great shape with only limited wear.  There is some sort of indention in the finish on the left side of the bass.  My guess is this sat in a case with a chord and the chord actually left an imprint in the finish.  There also is some minor nicks in the finish but not much.  The finish looks really good.  There is patina on the hardware but that adds to the vintage vibe.  The frets are in really good shape with only some really light wear on the first few frets.  The bass is definitely in great shape and everything works.  The electronics are clean and this sounds incredible.  I have the strings set up with low action and this plays like butter also.

This is amazing that this bass has the tobacco sunburst finish, radio knobs, a white pickguard and the B001976 serial number.  This is a very, very special bass and comes with a very special package.  I have a lot of Pre Ernie Ball Stingray Basses for Sale and a Lot of Parts.  This is probably the coolest Stingray Bass I have ever had in my possession.
