1978 Music Man Stingray Sunburst 9 pounds 5 ounces
This is a sunburst finish on an alder body with a maple neck. The bass is gorgeous. This is all original except some light overspray on the back of the body and the back of the neck. All original electronics. Pre Ernie Ball Stingray basses made before 1980 had string through bodies. This is one of those basses. The electronics are a 2 band eq with an active preamp. The active electronics along with the string through body make a very unique tone. The bass has lots of thump and a great low end but you can also get screeching highs out of this.
The pots all date to 1978 and there is a Jan 17 1978 date stamped on the body. The bass weighs 9 pounds and 5 ounces. The bass also has what I call a thunder pocket in the body. This is some routing which is under the pickups that helps the body vibrate. That is original. The light weight body definitely puts this at the top of the batch.
Condition
The bass is super clean. If you look at the right cutaway you can see the overspray on the body. Also there is no date on the neck which is because of the overspray on the back. The frets are in great shape with almost no signs of wear. This is a great feeling bass to play and the action plays fast. The light weight definitely gives this more sustain and there is a very even balance of thump and pop. The case is non original but it is also in great shape.
