Description

This is a 1978 Stelling Staghorn with a rare aluminum archtop tone ring. Geoff Stelling made a batch of these aluminum rings very early into Stelling Banjos and they were a flop. However a few did sound great and this is one of those few banjos. This is a standard Staghorn otherwise with the rare very feature of an archtop aluminum tone ring.

This is all original except the tuners for the 2nd and 3rd string are Keith D Tuners. This has an original Stelling rim with a walnut neck and resonator. There is abalone binding on each side of the neck and resonator along with white binding. The fretboard is ebonall and features the Staghorn inlay pattern.

All of the hardware is nickel and original including a no hole Stelling Ring and a One Piece Stelling Ribbon Flange.

The back of the walnut resonator also features a really cool Staghorn inlaid with wood. This is a very attractive banjo on top of being a powerhouse functionally. Other then the D Tuners this is all original and includes the original case.

Condition

The banjo is in fantastic shape. The banjo has been disassembled and all of the hardware buffed and polished. The finish has been waxed so all the wood and metal shine. The fretboard and frets are in good shape and there are spikes at frets 7, 9 and 10. This banjo is in great shape with no problems and the original case is in really good shape as well.

Set Up

This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge and strings are both Huber. This banjo is a classic design that looks great, plays great and sounds great and is set up to maximize performance.
