Description

Geoff Stelling has built some of the finest banjos in the history of banjo. He has recently retired and no more Stelling Banjos will be made. The Staghorn was at the top of the list of popularity for Stelling Banjos and cost $7000 to buy new. This is also Heavily Engraved which turns this into a true work of art. If you want the best in the history of Banjo this is it.

This was made in 1981 long before the Tony Pass Shell was used at Stelling. This banjo was sent back to Stelling and this has a Tony Pass Shell now which was put in the banjo by Geoff Stelling.

There is abalone binding on each side of the neck and resonator and the back of the resonator has a Staghorn inlaid with wood.

This has a walnut neck and resonator and the fretboard is ebony. The hardware is all nickel and is fully engraved and I am kidding in no way when I say this is beautiful. The flange is a one piece ribbon flange and the tone ring is a Stelling no hole tone ring. The banjo is all original except for new tuner buttons on the 1st 4 strings. The Pass Shell was not in the banjo when it was made in 1981 but it was installed by Stelling. This also includes an original case.

Condition

This banjo is stunning. The hardware looks fantastic and has been polished at the Banjo Warehouse. The finish is in great shape as well and has been waxed and shines. I want to mention I am having some minor problems with my photography area and the resonators show some glare and reflection in some of my pictures currently. This resonator has no problems even if it looks like there is a white glare or any glare. If you want more pics please ask.

The frets and fretboard are in great shape with minimal signs of any kind of use. There are spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. The case is in great shape inside and out. This banjo is clean.

Set Up

This is set up with a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is an original Stelling Bridge and this has new Huber Strings. This banjo has been set up at Banjo Warehouse to rock. This is a very rare and very desirable banjo and I do not expect this to last long at all. Happy Holidays!
