1981 Stelling Whitestar 5 string Banjo

This is an early Stelling Whitestar Banjo with Original Case.  This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

Geoff Stelling has made some of the finest banjos in the history of banjo.  He is retiring this year and was inducted into the American Banjo Museum Hall of Fame last year.  This all has caused a great deal of interest in his banjos and they have become scarce and expensive.  We are searching all over the world to have any of his banjos at all available.

This has a thick. maple, block rim with a maple neck and resonator.  The fretboard is ebony with snowflakes.  The hardware is all nickel and other then the coordinator rods all original. This includes a Stelling One Piece Ribbon Flange and a Stelling No Hole Tone Ring.  The tuners are original 5 star planets and this also has the original case.  This is a very good opportunity to get a Stelling banjo under $4000 and I can’t imagine it will be long before that is impossible.

Condition

The banjo is in great shape and has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has been disassembled and all of the hardware buffed to a shine.  The wood has been waxed and shines as well.  There is some minor spots on the resonator like surface scratches and nicks but they are minor.  There also is a spot of finish worn off on the back of the neck above the neck heel. The resonator looks really good and so does the hardware.

The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled with spikes at frets 7,9 and 10.  The first few frets show some wear but that effects nothing.  The rest of the frets are perfect.

The original case is really worn on the outside but is clean inside and totally functional.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse also.  This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90.  The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action feels great.  This has a Snuffy Smith Bridge and the intonation is set.  This is fully adjustable and ready to go!!!!
