Description

This has a curly maple neck and resonator with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay and there is binding on the neck and resonator.

The hardware is gold and all original including a one piece flange and a Mastertone Style Tone Ring. The makers of the original Gold Star Crowe Banjos went to any length to truly duplicate the pre war design and they did an exceptional job. The tailpiece is a Presto Style and the armrest has some basic engraving.

These Gold Star Crowes are nuts with volume and tone and are one of the best examples of a Pre War replica banjo available. This was made in Japan in 1985 which makes this even more interesting. The banjo is all original with a hardshell case.

Condition and set up

This had the 2 L brackets near the tailpiece out when I got it. I had those put back in. “There also is some grooves in the fretboard around the first few frets. Other then this the banjo is in top notch shape, it is truly gorgeous. The gold looks fantastic and the finish is in great shape also.

The first few frets have some wear which effects nothing, there is no buzzing or any structural issues. This has spikes at frets 7 and 9.

The banjo has a clean Remo head and new Huber strings. This is set up and this truly has the tone. Gold Star killed it with these old JD Crowe banjos and this is what you are looking for.

These have gotten to be nearly impossible to find. This is a fantastic option for a player that wants a clean and functional piece and doesn’t mind a bit of wear.
