Description

Greg Rich once ran the Gibson Custom Shop and was responsible for bringing back the classic Pre War Gibson Banjo designs starting in 1987. This is a 1987 Granada and there are many players and collectors that regard 1987 as a very special year for the Gibson Granada. 1987 Granadas tend to be loud with some stellar tone and this banjo has that. These are not the same as a 1990’s Granada even though the design is similar. These Banjos are different and special.

This is all original. The shell is a 3 ply hard rock maple shell and this has a curly maple neck and resonator. The fretboard is rosewood with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. The hardware is gold and all original. This includes an original Gibson Tone Ring and One Piece Flange.

The banjo is truly top quality as far as sound and function and this also includes a rare Gibson USA Case from 1987.

Condition

The banjo is not in bad shape but it does have some wear. A bit of the gold has worn off, mostly on the armrest. Some of the gold on the tension hoop has gone on the armrest side of the banjo. Overall the gold is in good shape but not perfect.

The back of the neck has a spot where some finish is worn off and you can see that in the pictures. There is also some fretwear but nothing that effects the function of the banjo. There are spikes at frets 7,8,9,10 and 12. The case is in good shape inside and out. The banjo does have wear but it still looks really good and is still in really good shape and is totally set up and ready to go.

Set Up

This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a Snuffy Smith and this has new Huber Truetone strings. This banjo is set up for maximum performance and I am not kidding when I say this banjo is loud with some extraordinary tone. Greg Rich was recently inducted into the Banjo Hall of Fame and this is an example of the greatness behind his outstanding reputation.
