Description

The Greg Rich era is regarded as the best era of production of Gibson Banjos outside of the Pre World War 2 Gibson Banjos. This is especially true for the earliest of the Greg Rich era Banjos which this is one of those. This Granada is not only gorgeous it has a sweet and powerful tone that will not be ignored when heard. This banjo is loud and really pops while still delivering a mellow sound. This is all original and gorgeous.

This has a 3 ply maple shell and a curly maple neck and resonator. The fretboard is rosewood with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. This has W/B/W Binding on each side of the neck and resonator and additional inlay on the headstock.

The hardware is gold and all original including a Gibson USA One Piece Flange and a Gibson Tone Ring made by Sullivan. The tension hoop and armrest and tailpiece all have Granada engraving as well. I want to mention that this gold is in superb condition so clearly this banjo was barely used. This also has the original period correct Gibson USA Hardshell Case that was with the banjo when it left the factory. These Gibson USA marked cases are rare because around 1991 they switched to a case that said The Gibson. This is absolutely a special and all original Gibson Banjo.

Condition

This banjo is in superb condition. I will mention there is a small crack in the veneer on the resonator next to the neck heel which are pictured. Other then those this is a near mint banjo. Especially the gold. The gold is stunning and the fact it is so clean is a clear indicator that this banjo was not played much.

The finish looks fantastic and has a really nice shine. The frets are basically perfect and the fretboard is super clean with spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. This banjo is gorgeous and the original Gibson USA is also clean.

Set Up

This is set up with a Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a Huber and the strings are Huber and this also is a super player. This banjo has a lot of pop with a gorgeous tone and is set up to be a thrill to play. This is a really good example of a serious powerhouse Rich era Granada Banjo and is set up and ready to go!!
