1989 Greg Rich era Gibson RB3
This is an all original Gibson RB3 pot but the neck is a Frank Neat neck. The neck is absolutely an upgrade and this is a better banjo with this neck. The resonator and neck are both fully bound. The resonator also has concentric rings. The pot is mahogany with nickel hardware and the neck is mahogany with rosewood. The Rosewood fretboard has leaves and bows inlaid and this is a gorgeous piece. This is finished off with a nice double cut headstock.
This 1989 Greg Rich era Gibson RB3 is really a beautiful banjo. The resonator has a sharp finish which still shines. This is almost free of any sign of use. Even the hardware also looks fantastic. I would not say this is mint but this is a very very clean banjo.
The neck has barely been used and man this is a great feeling neck. The frets still have a lot of life in them so in a way this is like buying a new banjo. The neck is new and the pot has been well taken care of. There are zero problems with function on this banjo.
There are spikes at the 7th-9th frets.
I always recommend a pre war banjo first and a Rich era second. The Greg Rich banjos are some of the finest banjos ever built and this is as fine an example of one as any.
