1989 Greg Rich Era Gibson RB3 Banjo
In 1987 Gibson hired Greg Rich and assembled one of the finest teams for banjo production in the history of banjo making. They set out to reissue the fabled pre war designs that are regarded as the best banjos ever. This is one of these designs and the RB-3 is a mahogany banjo with nickel hardware and a rosewood fretboard with leaves and bows. This has that classic JD Crowe, Earl Scruggs bark and sound and is a loud banjo that is oozing with tone.
This is in fantastic shape but there has been a couple of very minor repairs. The side of the resonator has a seam from a light crack that has been repaired and had some sunburst finish oversprayed by Robin Smith. The neck also had a microscopic crack that cannot be seen because it was so small and the repair was so good and the neck also had some sunburst overspray. The banjo looks fantastic and these repairs are absolutely almost impossible to notice.
The banjo itself is a phenomenal banjo but this is also a banjo set up by Charlie Cushman. This is LOUD and absolutely has that classic RB3 sound. The Greg Rich banjos are better than any other modern era of Gibson production and this was set up by the guy who is probably the best set up guy alive.
This also includes a very nice Superior hardshell case. If you have any questions at all please ask. Thanks!!!!
