Description

Geoff Stelling has built some of the finest banjos in the history of banjo. He has recently retired and no more Stelling Banjos will be made. The Moonflower was a limited edition banjo that was only made for 2 years in 1988-1989. This is essentially just a Sunflower but with a Dark Finish. This banjo is definitely rare and is a must have for a complete Stelling Banjo Collection.

This has a Curly Maple Neck and Resonator with an Ebony Fretboard. Each side of the neck and resonator have w/b/w binding and the fretboard has what would be typically called a Sunflower inlay pattern. The hardware is nickel and all original including a one piece Stelling Ribbon Flange and a No Hole Stelling Tone Ring.

The banjo is all original except for new tuners at the first 4 strings. However I have 2 original Stelling Tuners and a set of Keith D Tuners on the way which I am going to put on this banjo. If you buy this the banjo will include those original and Keith Tuners and I will install them for you.

This also has a Hardshell Case.

Condition

This banjo is in absolutely fantastic condition. The only flaw is there was a capo on at the neck and there is finish cracking in the lacquer on the back of the neck under the headstock. It is definitely a finish crack and I can definitely get that to disappear if the buyer wanted that. However I will probably have to wait a year to get it finished because all of the finish guys are backed up. This is why I am listing it for sale now with the finish crack, it does not effect anything and although it could be fixed it will take me some time to have cleaned up.

The hardware has been disassembled here at our shop and cleaned and looks fantastic. The finish is clean and has been waxed and also looks fantastic. The frets and fretboard are in fantastic shape, in fact they are nearly in flawless shape. There are spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. The banjo is definitely in great shape and the original case is clean as well.

I want to mention I am having problems in my photo area and the back of the resonator has a lot of glare in these pics. You can see my reflection. The resonator is in fantastic shape and if you want any pics taken from my phone to prove that just ask and I can do that.

Set Up

This is set up with a Remo frosted head that is set to 90. The bridge is an original Stelling Bridge and the strings are new Huber .10 gauge Truetone Strings. This banjo is superb and is ready to go.
