1990 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard 5 string Banjo

This is a copy of the Granada that was played by Earl Scruggs. The gold wore off his banjo’s hardware to nickel. And the Scruggs banjo had an ebony fretboard with a Hearts and Flowers inlay. This banjo also has nickel hardware and an ebony fretboard with Hearts and Flowers. This was made during the Greg Rich era and is regarded as one of the finest Scruggs Banjos available. Includes a clean and rare original tan Gibson Hardshell Case.

Description

This is a curly maple banjo with a 3 play hard rock maple shell. The neck is also curly maple with an ebony fretboard. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. There is also one extra inlay at the first fret like the Scruggs banjo. This has nickel hardware. One piece armrest and a Presto tailpiece. The banjo is all original. The banjo has an original Gibson USA flange and a Kulesh tone ring.

Condition

The banjo is in fantastic condition. The finish looks incredible. The neck finish is also clean. However there is some finish that has been worn off about half way down the neck. In addition there were original spikes put in all frets between 6 and 13 except the 8th fret. Now there are just spikes in the 7th,9th and 10th positions. There are exposed holes in the remaining frets where spikes were removed. The hardware is in great shape. That is definitely clean and looks great. The frets do have some light wear on the first few frets. This wear is limited to the first few frets. The banjo is in overall excellent condition with just a couple of minor spots of wear.

Set Up

The banjo was professionally set up here at the Banjo Warehouse. The action is set low to play fast while high enough to really pull out tone and volume. The banjo has been properly intonated. This has a new frosted Huber Head and New Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. Gibson bridge. The banjo is a fantastic player that looks and sounds incredible.
