Greg Rich Banjos have become some of the most coveted in all of Banjo History but especially the banjos he made while at Gibson. The most popular model of Gibson Banjo is the Scruggs Standard and Rich era Scruggs Standard Banjos have become nearly impossible to find. This is a copy of the banjo that was played for years by Earl Scruggs and these produce a sound that only comes out of an Earl Scruggs Standard. The Greg Rich examples are believed to be the best.
This has a 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a curly maple neck and resonator. The fretboard is ebony with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. This has all original nickel hardware including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA AFP Kulesh Tone Ring. The AFP Kulesh Rings are also believed to be the best of the Kulesh Tone Rings. This has a one piece armrest and a Presto Tailpiece. The banjo is all original except for 7 new frets at frets 1-7 and a new truss rod cover.
This has Earl Scruggs signature on a label on the inside of the pot in blue which is a real signature and is factory original. This also has an original Gibson Hardshell Case.
This is definitely in great shape and has been professionally cleaned at our shop. There are a couple of marks on the back of the neck, one is likely from a capo. Other than those spots the finish looks great and has been waxed to a nice shine. The frets and fretboard are clean and I mentioned frets 1-7 are new. This has D Tuners on it at some point which left imprints in the face of the headstock at the 2nd and 3rd strings which is pictured. There are spikes at frets 7, 9 and 10.
The banjo has been disassembled and all of the hardware has been buffed to a glow. This really looks incredible all the way around. The original case is in very good shape as well.
This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta. This has a Huber frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a Huber Bridge and the intonation is set. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this is playing great with incredible tone and volume. Greg Rich era Scruggs Standards are exceptional and this is a strong example of one.
