1991 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard 5 string Banjo

This is a smoking hot Earl Scruggs Standard made during the Greg Rich era.  This has been inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.

Description

This is a truly gorgeous and fantastic sounding Scruggs Standard.  This has been refinished and has new binding as well.  The tailpiece has also been changed.  In addition the tuners on the headstock are not original.  Other than that this is all original.  This does have a Kulesh tone ring and a handsigned label from Earl Scruggs.

The banjo has a curly maple build with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  The hardware is nickel.  The fretboard is ebony with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern.  There is an extra inlay at the first fret.  The reason this banjo is built like this is the banjo is a copy of the banjo that was played by Earl Scruggs for years.  This is essentially a granada with nickel hardware and an ebony fretboard.  This is why this is the Earl Scruggs Standard.

This also includes a very nice and attractive Tweed hardshell case.

Condition

The banjo is very clean.  The finish looks great and the hardware is glowing!!  I take all of these banjos apart and clean them so this has been recently cleaned and set up.  The fretboard is clean also with clean frets.  There is a hint of wear on the first few frets but it is only a hint.  The frets are in great shape.  This has spikes at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets.  There used to be a 5th string capo which was removed.  This left two small holes on the side of the neck.  Overall the banjo is in great shape and the tweed case is also super clean.

Set Up

This has been inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.  The banjo has nice string height (action) and correct intonation.  The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head.  This has a new Huber frosted head and new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings.  The bridge is a Sullivan bridge with a dark rosewood cap.  This looks great, sounds great and plays great.  This banjo would make any banjo player happy!!
