This is essentially the perfect Earl Scruggs Standard that was made during the Greg Rich era. This banjo has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

The Earl Scruggs Standard is the best selling model of Gibson Banjo and the most desired were made during the Greg Rich era. This is not only a Greg Rich era banjo this is all original with a Kulesh AFP tone ring, Factory Gibson Keith D Tuners, original Rich era case and the original warranty paperwork. This is a collector’s dream come true if the collector wants the best possible Earl Scruggs Standard. This happens to be hand signed by Earl Scruggs on the label which was done at the Gibson Factory.

This has a 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a curly maple neck and resonator. There is w/b/w binding on each side of the neck and resonator. The fretboard is ebony with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. The hardware is nickel and all original including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA Kulesh AFP tone ring. The Kulesh AFP tone ring is absolutely a different and superior ring to the standard Kulesh Rings which were made after. This banjo has a type of pop and tone that only these Rich era Scruggs Banjos with this ring has. I mentioned this has Factory Gibson Keith D Tuners as well which is super cool, super rare and I have seen these tuners sell on ebay for $500 by themselves. This is an extraordinary banjo that is also in great shape and has an original case that is super clean as well.

Condition

This is in stellar condition and has also been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse. The banjo has been disassembled and the hardware has been buffed to a glow. The finish was already in great shape and has been waxed to a nice shine as well. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled and the frets are in great shape all the way down the board. THIS HAS NEVER HAD SPIKES OR A FIFTH STRING CAPO WHICH IS HUGE. This banjo was never played by a full time or very serious player because this would have to get spikes or a 5th string capo if it was. This is a true collector quality closet classic piece that has had very little play time and has been prepared to basically be new. The case is also super clean inside and out.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is a new Huber bridge. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this is playing great. This feels like butter while producing tone that will tear the walls down. This banjo is also LOUD.

Scruggs Standards that are perfect like this almost never come up for sale. I have no doubt this won’t last long. If you want the best Scruggs Banjo this is it.
