1991 Gibson RB3 5 string Banjo Greg Rich Era

This is a gorgeous RB3 Banjo from the Greg Rich era.  The banjo has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse.  This is all original other than a 5th string capo and includes an original Hardshell Case.

Description

This is a mahogany banjo with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  The hardware is nickel.  The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fretboard.  This has a Kulesh Tone Ring which is a big deal.  That is an original ring.  The fretboard has a very attractive Flying Eagle inlay pattern.  There is white biding on each side of the neck and resonator.  The armrest is a one piece armrest and this has a Presto Tailpiece.  The banjo has a 5th string capo installed.  Everything other than the Capo is original.  The truss rod cover has Earl Scruggs 1924-2012 on the front but it is the original cover.  The banjo looks great and is a real banger!!  This also includes an original hardshell case with the original case key.

Condition

This is a truly gorgeous banjo.  The finish looks great.  There is some wrinkling in the finish on the back of the resonator.  This is common in older Gibson Banjos and can only be seen up close and when the banjo is at an angle.  I have a close up of the back of the resonator which shows this.  The fretboard is definitely clean as are the frets.  There is some minor wear on the first few frets which is pictured and also common.  There is no functional issues because of this.  The hardware really looks fantastic!!  This is a very clean banjo.  This also has a clean original hardshell case.

Set Up

The banjo has been set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has nice string height and proper intonation.  The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head.  This has a new Huber Frosted Head and new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings.  The bridge is a Snuffy Smith bridge with an ebony cap.  This is a very attractive and really great playing and sounding banjo!!!
