1995 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard Banjo

This is an Earl Scruggs Standard from right after the Greg Rich era.  This is a fantastic banjo that has all of the tone that a Scruggs Standard banjo should have.  This has been set up and inspected at the Banjo Warehouse.

Description

This is a copy of the Granada that was played by Earl Scruggs for a long time.  This has a curly maple resonator on a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  The neck is also curly maple with an ebony fretboard.  The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern with an extra inlay at the first fret.  The hardware is nickel.  This is because the gold wore off of the Scruggs Granada.  This is about as close as you can get to the original Earl Scruggs Sound.

The Greg Rich era ended in 1993 when Greg left Gibson but for a while the banjos were very similar to the Rich era Banjos.  This would be one of the similar banjos.  The design is identical and this was made by a lot of the same people.  The Gibson Banjos through the mid 1990’s are some of the best banjos that have been made in the last 50 years.  This is all original with a Kulesh tone ring.  This also includes an original Gibson Hardshell Case.

Condition

The banjo is definitely in really good shape also.  The finish all looks great.  The hardware glows and also is really clean.  The neck is in great shape with no spots missing.  At least a few of the frets have been changed and this has left some marks in the fretboard by some of the frets.  I have a couple of pictures.  This is only on a few of the spots where the frets are but there are some of these spots .   The frets themselves are really clean.  There is a touch of wear on the first few frets but it’s minor and only on the first few frets.  There are spikes at the 7th-12th frets.  This is a clean, all original banjo that looks fantastic.  The original case is also clean.

Set Up

This has been set up here at the shop.  The head is a frosted Remo Head.  This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings with a Snuffy Smith Bridge.  The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head.  The banjo plays great with correct intonation.  This is an all original and clean set up Earl Scruggs Standard that plays great and sounds incredible.
