This Stelling Bill Emerson Red Fox banjo came from a private collector and is in excellent condition. The gold plating looks almost brand new, and there is virtually no wear on the edge of the armrest where a banjo player’s forearm usually touches. The engraving also looks fantastic. I especially love the holes in the flange that are engraved on the edge.
The wood on the neck and resonator looks great and is finished in red-shaded cherrywood. There is a bit of wear on the neck in one spot (see photos). There are also a few small divots on the 1st and 2nd fret wires. This is a rare and highly sought-after banjo that comes with the original hardshell Stelling case.
We generally carry a wide range of Stelling banjos, from Staghorn and Golden Cross models to Red Fox, Sunflower, Whitestar, and others.
Stelling banjos are known for their exquisite quality and bright sound. Stelling banjos have been played by many top players, including Alan Munde, Don Reno, Eddie Adcock, Alison Brown, and Tony Trischka.
Give us a call at 404-218-8580. if you have any questions. We love to talk about banjos. Keep in mind that we nearly always have various Stelling banjos in stock that haven’t yet made it to our website listings.

ABOUT:
Geoff Hohwald has been playing banjo since the 1960’s. He became active in the thriving bluegrass community in Ohio as a teenager while studying at Ohio State University. He has played professionally as a guitarist and banjo player with several bluegrass bands ever since. Geoff moved to Atlanta after college and co-founded the Watch and Learn publishing company. They now publish a full line of musical instrument instruction books and digital modules. He also owned several music stores in Atlanta from the 1980s through the mid-2000s and is still an active participant in the musical instrument re-sale community in the southeast.
Banjo Warehouse is a family business resulting from 50 years of experience in music and 40 years of experience in musical instrument retail sales and education. Our focus is on the 5-string flathead banjo, but we also occasionally have a good selection of guitars and mandolins (and other folk instruments).
