1996 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard 5 string Banjo

This is a super nice mid 1990’s Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard Banjo. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

The Earl Scruggs Standard Banjo is the most popular model of Gibson Banjo. This is a copy of the banjo that was played by Earl Scruggs for years. These have a brightness and pop that only the Scruggs Standard has. This is a super clean.

This has a 3 ply hard rock maple shell with a curly maple neck and resonator. The fretboard is ebony with a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. There is w/b/w binding on the neck and resonator. The hardware is all original and nickel including a Gibson USA one piece flange and a Gibson USA Kulesh Tone Ring. This is all original except for a new nut and this banjo is gorgeous and sounds incredible.

There was a large stock of parts that were left over at Gibson when Greg Rich left and it is believed it took until the late 1990’s to use them all up. This banjo definitely has an incredible tone even if none of these parts were from the Rich era. This also includes the original case.

Condition

This banjo is in stellar condition and has been professionally cleaned at our shop. The banjo has been disassembled and all of the hardware has been buffed to a shine. The finish already looked great but we also waxed the finish to a shine. The fretboard and frets are in great shape and we cleaned and oiled the fretboard as well. There are spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. The only real mark is a spot of finish that is worn right next to the nut which is pictured. The original case is in great shape.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta. The head is a new Huber frosted head by Remo which is set to 90. The bridge is a Sosebee bridge and the intonation is set. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this plays great. This truly pops and this is set up to be a phenomenal player also.
