1998 Gibson Scruggs Standard Description

This is a copy of the banjo that was played by Earl Scruggs for years. This is a curly maple banjo with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell. This has nickel hardware. The neck is also curly maple with an ebony fretboard. The fretboard has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern. There is one extra inlay at the first fret. This is because Earl Scruggs had that same pattern. This is all original and has a highly sought after Kulesh Tone Ring. The Ring is stamped Gibson USA on the inside. The flange is also stamped Gibson USA and this has the Earl Scruggs signature label on the inside. The Gibson Banjos of the 1990’s still had so much of the sound that was around during the Greg Rich era and this is an example of that. This also includes a hard to find original Gibson Hardshell Case.

Condition

This banjo is absolutely gorgeous. The finish and hardware are all super clean. In fact it is all glowing. The fretboard is overall clean with clean frets. There is some very light splitting in the center of the board which is pictured. This doesn’t effect anything at all and a lot of people wouldn’t see it. There is almost no fretwear and what is there is only on the first few frets. The banjo has spikes at the 7th and 9th frets. This was very well taken care of and the case is also clean inside and out.

Set Up

This has been set up here in the shop. This plays great with correct intonation. The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head. The head is a clean Remo Frosted Head. This has a Sullivan Historic Bridge with an ebony cap. The strings are Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and are brand new. This looks great, sounds great and is set up to play great!! Clean inside and out with a clean original hardshell case.
