Description

The Gibson JD Crowe Blackjack is a powerful banjo that is unique and somewhat rare. These are very special and do not come up often and this one is a clean and all original example.

This has a mahogany neck and resonator with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has a special inlay which is gorgeous. The banjo has all original hardware with copper flashing and gold. All of the hardware is original including a 20 hole tone ring and a one piece flange. The tone ring, tension hoop, armrest and tailpiece are all engraved. This banjo is not only a powerful banjo it looks really good.

The mahogany neck is a V neck which a lot of people really like and this is the more popular neck for the Blackjack. This also is hand signed by JD Crowe on the label. Finally this includes an original The Gibson hardshell case.

Condition

This banjo is in fantastic shape. I want to mention there is a glare in the picture of the back of the resonator near the top of the resonator from a light in the photo room. That is not a spot in the resonator, that is only a glare in the photo. All of the finish is very clean. The frets and fretboard are also in fantastic shape and there are spikes in frets 7,8,9 and 10.

The hardware is also in fantastic shape. The copper flashing commonly wears off of these banjos and the metal is very clean. This is a real treat to find such a clean JD Crowe Blackjack with the V neck and also all original. Finally the original case is clean as well.

This is also set up very well. This banjo is a fantastic player that really “peels the paint off the walls”. This is a very nice example of a very powerful banjo that looks great, sounds great and is a thrill to play!!
