2006 Gibson JD Crowe Blackjack 5 string Banjo

This is a highly sought after and very Rare Gibson JD Crowe Blackjack Banjo.  This is all original and includes an original hardshell case.

Description

This is a mahogany banjo with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  The neck is also mahogany with a rosewood fretboard.  The hardware has copper flashing on it which really makes this sound great.  If you want an aggressive banjo this is the one.  This is like the AR15 of banjos.  These absolutely cut through any jam, and the tone really rings.  The copper has been engraved with a granada engraving pattern.  This is like the granada of mahogany banjos!

The fretboard has a custom Blackjack inlay pattern.  There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator.  This is all original.  The arm rest is a one piece armrest and the tailpiece is a Presto Tailpiece.  Both are engraved.  This also includes an original hardshell case.

Condition

This is absolutely in superb condition.  The finish and all of the wood look fantastic.  This is a really pretty banjo.  The hardware looks great but does show some use.  There is some sort of fading on the armrest.  The tailpiece also has some of this fading.  In addition on each side of the neck some of the copper has worn off of the flange.  Maybe 2.5 inches on each side of the neck.  The rest of the flange has great looking copper.  The frets are clean but the first few do show some light wear.  There is no buzzing or any problem because of the light fretwear.  There are spikes at frets 7-10.  The banjo is definitely in great shape with a clean original hardshell case.

Set Up

This has been set up here at the shop.  The banjo has great string height (action) and feels great to play.  The banjo has proper intonation.  The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head.This has a new Huber Frosted Head.  The bridge is a Snuffy Smith bridge with an ebony cap.  This also has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings.
