2009 Gibson Earl Scruggs Standard Banjo

This is a Gibson Scruggs Standard with an original case.  I believe this is all original.  The only thing that may be non original is the finish on the neck.  This has been inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.

Description

This is a copy of the Granada that was played for a long time by Earl Scruggs.  He had an ebony fretboard added and the gold wore down to nickel.  This banjo features those parts to match the Scruggs banjo.

This is a curly maple banjo with a 3 ply hard rock maple shell.  The neck is also curly maple with an ebony fretboard.  The banjo has a Hearts and Flowers inlay pattern with one extra inlay at the first fret.  The hardware is nickel.  This is all original with the possible exception of a refinished neck.  I’m not sure if it was refinished or if that is how Gibson made these in 2009.  The colors don’t match on the neck to what I am used to seeing with Scruggs banjos.  Everything else is original.  This has a one piece armrest and a Presto Tailpiece.  The banjo also includes an original Gibson hardshell case.

Condition

The banjo is definitely gorgeous.  The finish is clean and looks really good.  The hardware looks almost like its new!!  It is really shining.  The frets don’t show wear except for the first few frets. This does not effect the function, there is no buzzing.  The fretboard is clean as well.
There are spikes at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets.  The original case is clean but there were some stickers that must have been superglued on there which I couldn’t get completely off.

Set Up

This has been set up here in the shop.  The banjo has great string height (action) and is comfortable to play.  This is definitely a loud banjo with a lot of sound!  The banjo has correct intonation.  The head has been set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head.  This has a new Huber frosted head and new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings.  The bridge is a new Dotson bridge with an ebony cap.  This looks, plays and sounds incredible!!
