This is a gorgeous and rare Deering Greg Deering Limited 5 string Banjo with the original case.  This has been inspected and set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.

Description

This is a special limited edition banjo that is truly gorgeous.  This has a burled walnut resonator with nickel hardware.  The neck is flamed maple with an ebony fretboard.  The neck and resonator each have white and abalone binding on each side which looks fantastic.  The abalone binding is a very nice touch.  There is beautiful inlay work on the fretboard and the headstock.  This has an aftermarket wood armrest but everything else is original.  The headstock also has w/b/w binding around the side which looks very nice on this.

This is normally a $7000 banjo and it makes sense because this is an exceptional instrument.  If you are looking for a special banjo this is it.  This also has an original hardshell case that includes the original Deering warranty (that is blank) and other paperwork.  I’m thrilled to have this because they don’t come up often.

Condition

This banjo was owned by a collector who almost never played it so it doesn’t show really any playwear.  However the top of the headstock has some sort of nick in the finish which is pictured.  In addition the side of the resonator has “rough” finish.  This means the finish itself has not been worn but something happened that caused it to no longer be smooth.  I almost wonder if it’s supposed to be that way.  The rest of the finish is gloss and smooth.

All of the hardware looks incredible and the frets are also basically perfect.  There are no spikes or 5th string capo so this couldn’t have been played much.  The original case is also clean.  This is a really good opportunity to buy a $7000 banjo for half price that is still gorgeous and was barely played.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up here at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has an original Deering frosted head which is perfect.  This also has the original Deering bridge.  The banjo has correct intonation and the action is set up nicely.  This plays great and the strings pull a LOT of sound out of this banjo.  This is a very special banjo that looks incredible and is a dream to play and hear.
