This is a 5 string Flathead Banjo made out of parts including a Fender Concertone neck.  This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This is a parts banjo that has a Flathead pot and a 5 string neck.  The neck came off of a Fender Concertone Banjo and has some wear.  The shell is a 3 ply hard rock maple shell and this has a full size 20 hole tone ring.  The hardware is all nickel and this has a one piece flange.  The resonator is mahogany with vintage satin finish and concentric rings.  I can’t tell if the fretboard is rosewood or ebony because it is really dark and has some wear but I think it is ebony.  There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator and there is attractive inlay going up the fretboard.  This is actually a good banjo especially with the pot assembly.  I want to mention that the Concertone that is written on the neck block of course is not original but the neck is a Concertone.  This has been set up at the shop so it plays and sounds it’s best and also has a hardshell case.

Condition

This has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse.  We disassembled the banjo and buffed the metal with a high powered buffer and waxed the wood.  The metal and neck and resonator look fantastic.  The fretboard has scratching and some sort of wear which doesn’t effect function much at all but under certain lighting looks sort of weird.  The fretboard definitely plays fine and a lot of people would have never known had I not said anything.  The first few frets show a bit of light wear but the rest of the frets are really clean.  There are spikes on the 7th-9th frets.  The case is also in good shape.

Set Up

We professionally set up this banjo at the Banjo Warehouse as well.  This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90 on a drum dial.  The bridge is a no name bridge but is a good one and is set with correct intonation.  The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set nicely.  This is definitely a strong banjo that has been cleaned and set up to look, play and sound it’s best.
