This is an all original Crown Bowtie 5 string Banjo which was made in Japan in the 1970’s. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta.

Description

Many of the Japanese Banjos that were made in the 1970’s were exceptional banjos that were better than American Banjos at that time. This is a great example of a high quality Vintage Japanese Banjo.

This has a gorgeous rosewood resonator with a mahogany neck. The hardware is nickel and this is all original. The banjo has a rosewood fretboard with very attractive bowtie inlay. There is white binding on each side of the neck and w/b/w binding on each side of the resonator. The binding has yellowed which looks really good. The banjo has a full size 20 hole tone ring which does a lot to help the tone and volume. This has engraving on the armrest and tailpiece which adds to the character of this banjo.

We have added a geared 5th string tuner but everything else is original. The 5th string tuners on a lot of these old Japanese Banjos wasn’t very good so this needed to be done.

This is definitely a quality instrument and since we have professionally cleaned and set this up this is functioning at its best. The banjo also has the original hardshell case.

Condition

This is gorgeous. We professionally clean every banjo that comes through here.

This has been completely disassembled and we have buffed all of the metal. The wood has been waxed which leaves a really nice shine. This banjo is glowing. The fretboard has also been cleaned and oiled. The neck and fretboard are both clean with clean frets. The frets really look great, this couldn’t have been played much. The banjo is definitely clean and the case is also clean. There is one broken latch on the case but the other 2 latches will keep the case closed.

Set Up

We also professionally set up every banjo that comes through here.

This has a new Huber frosted head by Remo which is set to 90 on a drum dial. The bridge is a Grover bridge and the banjo has correct intonation. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set nicely. This plays great with a lot of volume. Plus the banjo is fully adjustable. This is a great vintage banjo that came out of Japan when production standards were high. This has been professionally cleaned and set up which has caused it to look, sound and play great.
