Ernie Ball Music Man Old Smoothie Stingray
Since its introduction in 1976, the Music Man StingRay has been embraced as one of the world’s classic electric bass designs. To celebrate, Ernie Ball Music Man is proud to introduce the 40th Anniversary “Old Smoothie” StingRay, a faithful reproduction of StingRay prototype #26. This was designed for Sterling Ball during his time spent testing and developing the original prototypes back in the 70’s.
Named for its smooth even tone that is reminiscent of the highly sought after vintage Music Man StingRay sound, “Old Smoothie” has been precisely reproduced including the one-of-a-kind custom made 10 pole piece pickup design, body headstock and pickguard shape, 34-inch scale maple neck and fingerboard, low profile narrow frets, hardware, and active electronics.
This bass is finished in a vintage style sunburst and has a white pick guard. This is how the very first Stingray Basses were offered so this has the vintage vibe. The neck is a clean maple and this has the old Music Man logo. This even has the ™ on the logo which was featured on the very first Stingrays produced!!! This is a classic example of a vintage Stingray bass featuring a rare 10 pole pickup. Even the preamp has epoxy the same as the earliest Stingray basses.
Condition
This is almost untouched. The bass shows basically no wear. The frets are clean, fat and round all the way down the fretboard. The finish and hardware look incredible. There is 1 bump on the side of the body which is featured. And that is very small. This is basically a near mint version of this bass. The original case is also near mint. And this has all of the original tags and unopened case candy.
