Hatfield Custom 5 string Banjo

This is an American Made Hatfield 5 string flathead banjo. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta.

Description

This has a mahogany neck and resonator with a rosewood fretboard that has a Flying Eagle inlay pattern. The neck and resonator each have white binding which has yellowed. The hardware is nickel and all original including a one piece flange and a 20 hole tone ring. The neck is a speed neck which means the finish has been sanded off of the back of the neck. Functionally this banjo is a killer option and this has been set up to really produce power. This includes a foamshell hard case.

Condition

The banjo is in good shape and has been professionally cleaned at our shop. There was once a break where the neck meets the headstock which has been repaired. There also is a spot on the armrest that some of the nickel wore down to brass. Finally there is some light button scratching on the back of the resonator.

We disassembled the banjo and buffed all of the metal with a high powered buffing wheel to a glow. The finish has also been waxed to a shine. The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled and the frets look fantastic, almost untouched. This has spikes at frets 7,8,9 and 10. The banjo has some wear but it has been professionally prepared and it still looks really good and performs even better.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. The head is a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge has a large C which I do not know what that means but the intonation is set and the bridge is quality. This has new Huber Truetone .10’s and this plays great. With the speed neck this is a phenomenal player and it is set up and ready to go.
