This is a well loved Pre Ernie Ball Sabre from sometime around 1980. This has been inspected and set up by the Stingray Man at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta

Description

The Pre Ernie Ball Music Man Basses are some of the best electric basses that have been built. This is a Sabre that was made sometime around 1980 and is all original except for the volume pot, a new nut and new frets. This bass has been well loved and has naturally become relic’d.

This has the original natural finish except the neck has been sanded down on the front and the back. I’m guessing that is because someone felt that helped them fret faster, which is true. The sanded fretboard could be looked at as an upgrade for function. This has 2 original Sabre humbuckers which are slightly smaller then the Stingray Pickup. The electronics are all original except for the volume pot. This bass is a player and includes an original blonde Music Man case.

Condition

This bass was well worn on the way in so we did not clean it at all. I call an instrument like this an Organic Relic.

There is a lot of checking in the original finish. This bass is heavily checked. There are spots in the finish that are totally worn through . I mentioned the front and back of the neck have been sanded but the headstock still has the original finish. The finish on the headstock is also heavily checked. There is tarnish in the metal so the metal is definitely aged.

The case also is very worn. One of the latches is broken but the other latches are securing. There is a lot of wear in the blonde exterior. The inside is clean but the case is worn as well.

Set Up

The bass has been set up at our shop. This has new Strings and is a great player. This has a stereo effect from the dual pickups and this bass has a lot of punch. This is definitely the Pre Ernie Ball Tone and has been set up with new strings.
