Description

This is a special Necvhille model that has a tunnel for the 5th string tuning key. The 5th string tuner is located on the headstock which eliminates the need for a tuner half way down the neck. This is also an early Nechville Phantom. Nechville Banjos use Tom Nechville’s Heli Mount system which allows for precision set up that is quicker and easier to do than adjusting any banjo made.

This has a curly maple resonator with the Heli Mount hardware. The neck is also curly maple with a rosewood fretboard. The fretboard has dots. There is rosewood binding on each side of the neck and white binding on each side of the resonator. The arm rest is a wood armrest. The headstock has a rosewood veneer with the Nechville logo. The tuners are Grover tuning keys. This has the original Necvhille Heli Mount adjusting wrenches and a capo. This is a fantastic banjo that has some cutting edge features.

Condition

This is in great shape and was well taken care of. The finish and hardware all look great. This is definitely clean. The side of the neck appears to have some sort of filler to seal the channel for the 5th string tuner. There is also a square black spot on the side of the neck in this area. I’ll bet this banjo was a prototype which is where this stuff came from. There also isn’t a truss rod cover which reinforces this belief on top of the banjo having no label on the inside. All of this tells me this banjo is older and probably one of the first phantom banjos made. The case is a TKL hardshell case in great shape.

Set Up

This has been professionally set up here at the shop. This has new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings. The head is a clean Remo head. The banjo is set up with nice string height that is comfortable to play and produces some great volume. The head is set to 90 on a drum dial all the way around the head. This is a very attractive and clean banjo that is set up to play and sound fantastic.
