This is a rare Alvarez Montana Banjo from Japan out of the 1970’s. This is Gold Plated. The banjo has been inspected, cleaned and set up at the Banjo Warehouse.

Description

Japanese Banjos from the 1970’s are true professional banjos. Many of these outdo the Gibson Mastertone Banjos of the 1970’s and are known as Masterclones. This banjo is a gold plated professional quality instrument that now has aged with some nice vintage tone.

This has a thick shell with a rosewood neck and resonator. The rosewood is likely Brazilian because that was being used heavily in Japan at this time. The fretboard is rosewood with a unique dot inlay. The hardware is gold plated with an engraved armrest and tailpiece. This has an original one piece flange and an original 20 hole gold plated full size tone ring. This has a rosewood headstock overlay along with a phoenix on the back of the headstock. This banjo is unique and gorgeous.

This is all original other then an upgraded geared 5th string tuner and a couple new screws in the tuners on the headstock. The case is original and is in great shape.

Condition

This is in really good shape and has been professionally cleaned at our shop. The gold does have some wear but it is clean and really intact. The finish is in great shape overall. There is a nick in the back of the neck but the finish is definitely in good shape. There was once a 5th string capo which has left a couple of pin size holes in the binding on the side of the neck. This is a good looking banjo with a clean original case.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90. The bridge is set with correct intonation. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this plays great!! This is definitely a smooth player with great tone.
