This is a Vintage 1970’s Fender Leo 5 string Banjo that was Made in Japan.  This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This is a Vintage Fender Leo Banjo that was made in Japan.  The Japanese musical instruments of the 1970’s are often superior to American instruments of the same period.  The Japanese instrument builders were trying to copy or even outdo the quality of American Musical Instruments and this is a great example of a high quality Vintage Japanese Banjo.

This has a thick shell with a mahogany neck and resonator all with gloss finish.  The fretboard is rosewood with a custom inlay pattern on the board.  There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator.  The hardware is nickel and all original except for new tuners and a new Presto style tailpiece.  The flange is a two piece flange and the tone ring is a full size 20 hole tone ring.  This banjo is a phenomenal player at a great value and includes a nice Guardian Hardshell Case.

Condition

This does have some signs of playwear but has been professionally cleaned at our shop and this is a great looking banjo.  The neck and resonator are in great shape with almost no sign of wear.  In fact those look fantastic.  The hardware also looks fantastic and has been buffed to a nice shine.  The fretboard has some grooves in the first 5 fret spaces but that does not effect the function at all.  The frets are in overall good shape with some light wear on the first few frets which also does not effect the function.  There was once a 5th string capo which has been removed and has left a couple of now filled in holes in the side of the neck.  There also was once spikes in the fretboard which have been removed.  We can put spikes in this at no charge if you want that.

The banjo definitely looks great but there are a handful of signs of wear that are notable.  The case is in great shape inside and out.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse as well.  This has a new Huber frosted head by Remo which is set to 90.  The bridge is set with correct intonation.  The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this plays great.  This is a great sounding banjo that is a whole lot of fun to play!
