Recording King Banjos
Recording King builds high quality banjos, including 5-string bluegrass and openback banjos. Greg Rich, of Gibson banjo fame, was instrumental in the design of some of the first Recording King bluegrass banjos. The style and design of Recording King Banjos is similar to some of the premier pre war Gibson Banjos. A few of these models include a cast brass tone ring for a powerful sound.They’re excellent banjos at very reasonable price points.
Late 1930s Recording King Model #731 — made by Gibson at Kalamazoo for Montgomery Ward. This tenor conversion features a Huber HR-30 tone ring, original sunburst maple resonator, one-piece flange, and prewar Presto tailpiece. The replacement 5-string neck includes an adjustable truss rod and modern tuners. Prewar craftsmanship meets modern playability.
The Madison RK-R35 gives banjo players a high-quality, great-sounding banjo with a classic Mastertone-style bell brass cast tone ring and one-piece flange. The Recording King Madison RK-R35 is built around the Recordking King 3-ply steam bent maple rim, using the same rim and hardware as in the best-selling RK-ELITE-75 (a $2000 banjo).
