This 1987 Stelling Virginian Banjo has one bird on its headstock, which is one of the most difficult models to find.
This gold-plated Stelling features straight grain walnut and beautiful engravings on the inlays. However, It’s not only an art piece. This is also a powerful banjo with an incredible tone.
The gold is in excellent condition overall. There is some wear on the armrest which is typical of vintage gold-plated banjos. The frets show no wear which indicates that this instrument has been well taken care of. The finish is virtually flawless with a small mark on the back of the headstock (see pictures).
We’ve sold more than 2,000 banjos in the past five years and this is only the second gold-plated Virginian we’ve ever seen!
We generally carry a wide range of Stelling banjos, from the Staghorn and Golden Cross models to the Red Fox, Sunflower, Whitestar, and others.
Stelling banjos are known for their exquisite quality and bright sound. Stelling banjos have been played by many top players, including Alan Munde, Don Reno, Eddie Adcock, Alison Brown, and Tony Trischka.
Remember that we nearly always have Stelling banjos in stock that have yet to be added to our website listings.

ABOUT:
Geoff Hohwald has been playing banjo since the 1960’s. He became active in the thriving bluegrass community in Ohio as a teenager while studying at Ohio State University. He has played professionally as a guitarist and banjo player with several bluegrass bands ever since. Geoff moved to Atlanta after college and co-founded the Watch and Learn publishing company. They now publish a full line of musical instrument instruction books and digital modules. He also owned several music stores in Atlanta from the 1980s through the mid-2000s and is still an active participant in the musical instrument re-sale community in the southeast.
Banjo Warehouse is a family business resulting from 50 years of experience in music and 40 years of experience in musical instrument retail sales and education. Our focus is on the 5-string flathead banjo, but we also occasionally have a good selection of guitars and mandolins (and other folk instruments).
