Made in the USA
The Shelby Blackhawk is a professional-grade banjo handcrafted in Wedowee, Alabama, by the Shelby American Banjo Company. This is a brand new instrument, and Banjo Warehouse is proud to be an authorized Shelby dealer.
I’ve known Shelby American Banjo Company founder Barry Waldrep since he and his dad would visit my music store in Atlanta when he was a kid. Barry has become an incredible musician and businessman, so when he told me he was starting his own company, I was excited to see what he would come up with, and these banjos don’t disappoint.
Stunning Craftsmanship
The peghead is a work of art, featuring an elaborate pearl-flying-eagle inlay, the Shelby script logo (named after Earl Scruggs’ hometown), and ornate scrollwork. The flat rosewood fingerboard showcases unique pearl inlays at every position, culminating in the “BLACKHAWK” block inlay at the 22nd fret. The mahogany neck has a rich, dark finish and Rickard tuners with white buttons.
Tone & Hardware
This Blackhawk is built around a 20-hole “Shelby” tone ring that delivers a powerful, cutting tone perfect for bluegrass. Nickel-plated hardware throughout includes the one-piece flange, armrest, and Presto-style tailpiece. The mahogany resonator features cream binding with elegant concentric ring purfling.
