In late 2018, “Banjo Ben” Clark, Jake Stogdill, and Robby Boone had a concept for replicating one of the most iconic banjos, played by one of the most iconic banjo players of all time, JD Crowe’s original RB-3 (“Banger”). After extensive research and great attention to every detail, Gold Tone was able to rebirth this classic banjo. This banjo is unique in its “No Hole” tone ring, which tightens up the sustain. It also features the original headstock, neck, and body measurements, nickel-plated hardware, slanted resonator walls, vintage inlay, a Presto tailpiece, concentric resonator rings, and a brown mahogany finish. We’ve designed hundreds of banjos in the last 25 years, but tone-wise, this outperforms every previous model. It includes an archtop hardshell case and a lifetime transferrable warranty. It can be ordered with capo spikes or as a left-handed model.
All Gold Tone instruments are set up in Titusville, FL. USA ![](https://gtmg.b-cdn.net/img/goldtone/product-page/flag-usa.svg)

ABOUT:
Geoff Hohwald has been playing banjo since the 1960’s. He became active in the thriving bluegrass community in Ohio as a teenager while studying at Ohio State University. He has played professionally as a guitarist and banjo player with several bluegrass bands ever since. Geoff moved to Atlanta after college and co-founded the Watch and Learn publishing company. They now publish a full line of musical instrument instruction books and digital modules. He also owned several music stores in Atlanta from the 1980s through the mid-2000s and is still an active participant in the musical instrument re-sale community in the southeast.
Banjo Warehouse is a family business resulting from 50 years of experience in music and 40 years of experience in musical instrument retail sales and education. Our focus is on the 5-string flathead banjo, but we also occasionally have a good selection of guitars and mandolins (and other folk instruments).
