Description

Geoff Stelling has built some of the finest banjos in the banjo’s history.  He has recently retired, and no more Stelling Banjos will be made.  The Moonflower was a limited edition banjo made only for two years, in 1988 and 1989.  This is essentially a Sunflower but with a Dark Finish.  This banjo is rare and a must-have for a complete Stelling Banjo Collection.

This has a Curly Maple Neck and Resonator with an Ebony Fretboard.  Each side of the neck and resonator has w/b/w binding, and the fretboard has what would typically be called a sunflower inlay pattern.  The hardware is nickel and all original, including a one-piece Stelling Ribbon Flange and a No Hole Stelling Tone Ring.

The banjo is all original except for new tuners at the first four strings.

This also has a non-Stelling Hardshell Case.

Condition

This banjo is in very good condition.  The only flaw is a crack on the back of the neck (see photo, which makes the crack look worse than it is), which was likely repaired. However, you can still see an outline of the crack. The neck is structurally sound, but if someone wants to eliminate the blemish, any good finish expert can easily make it go away. We are selling this instrument as is.

The banjo is dark, almost black, but it looks brown in the pictures. Give us a call for an in-hand description.

The hardware has been disassembled here at our shop, cleaned, and looks fantastic.  The finish is clean, has been waxed, and also looks fantastic.  The frets and fretboard are in fantastic shape.  There are spikes at frets 7,9 and 10.

This banjo comes with a nice, non-Stelling case.

Set-Up

This is set up with a Remo frosted head set to 90.  The bridge is an original Stelling Bridge, and the strings are new Huber .10 gauge Truetone Strings.  This banjo is superb and is ready to go.
