1929 Gibson TB1 5 string conversion Banjo

This is a 1929 Gibson TB1 One Piece Flange 5 string conversion Banjo with a Blaylock Ring and Zach Demming neck. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

This is a One Piece Flange Pre War Style 1 conversion Banjo that really pops. If you look at the pictures you will see that there is a chunk missing from the flange which is why we have done some discounting already. This banjo is still top quality, is an extraordinary player banjo and the Flange is solid and secure.

This is all original other then a Modern Presto Tailpiece and of course the ring and neck which were necessary to make this a flathead conversion. The hardware has aged nicely. The shell is a 3 ply hard rock maple shell and the neck and resonator are both maple with white binding. The fretboard is rosewood with a Leaves and Bows inlay. This has a speed neck which means that all of the finish has been sanded off the neck so that it plays faster.

The tone ring is a 20 hole Blaylock Tone Ring and the neck was made by Zach Demming who was a former employee of Geoff Stelling. This banjo has the Pre War Pop and is a phenomenal player as well.

The Banjo weighs 10 pounds 12 ounces and this has a modern Gibson Hardshell Case.

Condition

This banjo definitely has wear most notably the chunk taken off of the flange. All of the original hardware has pitting and the armrest has nickel worn off of part of it. The flange happens to be flat with little pull which is a nice point. The finish on the resonator looks good but there is some buckle wear there. The frets are in really good shape with only light wear and most of the frets are perfect. There are spikes at frets 7, 8 and 9. This is probably an 8 in condition and the case is worn also but still strong, sturdy and functional.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta. The head is a frosted 5 star head and is set to 90. The bridge is a new Huber Bridge and is set correctly. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this is set up great and truly has the tone. This banjo has Pre War all over it and is absolutely a top quality performer.
