Why the Goodtime Americana?
The Americana is the Deering Goodtime built on a 12 inch rim instead of the usual 11 inch, with a 12 inch Renaissance head. Deering says the larger rim gives a stronger bass response and a warmer, more laid back tone than an 11 inch banjo with a frosted head, which makes it a natural fit for old time and clawhammer playing and for backing up a singer or another instrument.
The fret markers on this one are the bowtie inlay, which Deering has since discontinued.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 12 inches across, with a 12 inch Renaissance medium crown head. Beveled steel tension hoop with 16 flat J-hooks and 9/32 inch nuts. Goodtime armrest, 5/8 inch Goodtime Smile bridge and Deering’s patented Goodtime tailpiece. Hand rubbed polyurethane finish with carnauba wax.
In short: a brand new, left-handed, American-made 12 inch openback banjo with a discontinued inlay, at about 4.5 lbs.
The Neck
Rock maple neck in natural maple with a satin finish and a comfortable D shape. 22 pressed in nickel silver frets with bowtie inlays. Lexan polycarbonate nut at 1 1/4 inch width. Sealed geared tuners and a Goodtime geared 5th string tuner. 26 1/4 inch scale length. Overall length 37 1/2 inches.

Is this banjo left-handed?
Yes. It is built left-handed, with the 5th string tuner on the opposite side of the neck from a right-handed Goodtime. The photos show this exact banjo.
Why is it discounted?
We bought all of the Deering inventory from a banjo retailer that is going out of business. It does not carry a Deering manufacturer’s warranty, so we sell it below Deering’s list price and back it with a Banjo Warehouse warranty.
Is it made in the USA?
Yes. Deering makes the Goodtime line in Spring Valley, California.
