Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Gold Tone OB-100?
The Gold Tone OB-100 is a Mastertone-style bluegrass resonator banjo inspired by the classic Gibson RB-100. Designed with input from Greg Rich, it features a rolled brass tone ring, one-piece cast flange, mahogany neck and resonator, and a tobacco burst matte finish with traditional dot inlays.
What was the Gibson RB-100?
The Gibson RB-100 was an entry-level Mastertone banjo produced by Gibson from the 1940s through the 1960s. It featured simpler appointments than higher-end Mastertones but retained professional construction including a one-piece flange. The Gold Tone OB-100 is a tribute to this classic design.
What type of flange does the OB-100 have?
The OB-100 has a one-piece cast flange, the same construction found on Gibson Mastertone banjos. This is an upgrade from the flat or two-piece flanges found on many entry-level instruments and contributes to the banjo’s professional-grade tone and sustain.
What type of tone ring does the OB-100 have?
The OB-100 has a rolled brass flat bar tone ring set into a specially routed channel along the top outer edge of the 3-ply Canadian maple rim. This design delivers strong, focused punch characteristic of Mastertone-style banjos while keeping the overall weight manageable.
Does the OB-100 come with a case?
The OB-100 comes with a gig bag included. When purchased from Banjo Warehouse, it also ships with a professional Gold Tone factory setup and free shipping.
