Electric Banjos
An electric banjo carries a built-in pickup so it can plug straight into an amp, giving you the bite of a banjo with the volume and sustain of an electric instrument. Solid-body models like Gold Tone’s EB series stay quiet acoustically, which makes them as useful for late-night practice through headphones as for cutting through a loud stage.
They suit players pushing the banjo into rock, blues, and experimental settings, as well as anyone who needs reliable amplified tone without miking an acoustic head. Browse our electric banjos below, including five- and six-string models and left-handed options.

Plug straight into an amp
Every banjo on this page is a Gold Tone electric with a built-in pickup, so it plugs into an amp or a headphone amp with no microphone. The EB-5 and EBM-5 are five-strings, the EB-6 is a six-string tuned like a guitar, and the EBT puts a five-string banjo neck on a Tele-style body. The EB-5 and EBM-5 also come in left-handed versions.
Want an acoustic banjo with a pickup?
An acoustic-electric banjo is a regular acoustic banjo with a pickup added, so it sounds like a banjo unplugged too. The Deering Goodtime Acoustic/Electric is on our openback banjos page, and six-strings with a pickup, like the Gold Tone CC-Banjitar, are on our 6-string banjos page.
