The Pisgah Banjo Co. Tubaphone 12″ Openback Banjo is a brand new, right-handed 5-string openback banjo with a 12″ maple rim, a Pisgah-made Tubaphone tone ring and a 26-3/16″ scale (standard scale). It is made in the USA.
The pot carries a Remo Renaissance head with the Pisgah Banjo Co. logo, an aged brass tension hoop with a wide frailing notch and 18 brackets. The maple neck has a traditional dowel stick, a Richlite fingerboard with brass side dots and metallic face dots, and an S-style frailing scoop. It is available now at Banjo Warehouse in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Who the Pisgah Tubaphone 12″ is for
The Pisgah Tubaphone 12″ is for players who play clawhammer (frailing) and want a full 12″ openback pot on a standard 26-3/16″ scale neck. The scoop and the hoop notch give your picking hand room to play clawhammer (frailing) over the end of the fingerboard. An openback banjo has no resonator, so it is lighter and sounds mellower than a resonator banjo.
The Pisgah-made Tubaphone tone ring
This banjo has a Tubaphone tone ring, made in-house by Pisgah to the pattern of an original Tubaphone ring. It sits on the 12″ maple rim under the Remo Renaissance head with the Pisgah Banjo Co. logo. Tubaphone is also the model name written on the maker’s label inside the rim.
Neck, fingerboard and hardware
The maple neck has a TUSQ XL nut, Gotoh tuners, including a Gotoh 5th-string tuner, and a star inlay on the peghead. The Richlite fingerboard has brass side dots and metallic face dots, and it ends in an S-style frailing scoop over the pot. The Pisgah Hawktail tailpiece and the rest of the aged brass hardware match the aged brass tension hoop.
